First Monday of the Year

First Monday of the Year

Greetings!

And welcome to 2018!  The start of a new year always seems like a new beginning, with all kinds of possibilities.  Unless 2018 is unlike any other year, it will undoubtedly bring joys and sorrows – my wish to each of you is that the joys outnumber the sorrows.

To symbolize the idea of a new dawn, how about an actual dawn picture?

I actually took this one on New Year’s Day a few years ago without having to leave the comfort of our condo.  However, it doesn’t really capture the idea of winter as much as this (actually slightly pre-dawn) image:

It looks like we will have a slight dusting of snow this year also!

Most of the more dramatic sunrise pictures in my library are associated with colorful clouds,

but if you put any faith in the old saying, red skies in the morning mean trouble for shepherds (or sailors, depending on where you grew up!).  So in addition to those land-based shots, here are a couple of marine ones:

However, none of those pictures really convey the hope for new life and recreation.  The best way I can think of  to do that is by means of some real examples of new life, such as these baby birds:

I hope you all have a great week, and a Happy New Year!
